The levels of job satisfaction and factors effecting job satisfaction of the surgical nurses working in various health foundations in Afyon

SUMMARY This study is an descriptive one which was prepared to determine the levels of job satisfaction and factors affecting job satisfaction of the surgical nurses working in various health foundations in Afyon. The research was made between December the 4th and 25th, 2003 on the nurses working in operation rooms or surgical services in 5 piblic hospitals, 1 Social Security Insurance (SSI) Hospital, and 1 university hospital whose names are as follows: Afyon Public Hospital, Zübeda Hanım Maternity Hospital, Afyon SSI Hospital, Cay Public Hospital, Bolvadin Public Hospital, Emirdağ Public Hospital, Afyon University Ahmet Necdet Sezer Research and Application Hospital. Information form was used to collect data by the researcher. For the evaluation of the data Variance Analysis and Student t Test were used. The avarage point of job satisfaction was detremined to be x=12,13. While it was found out that the rate of job satisfaction of the nurses was above the avarage in subscales like "the characteristic of the job", "relations with colleagues", "realations with authorities", the least satisfaction rate was determined to be in "promotion/improvement possibilities". It was found out that nurses working in SSI Hospital, nurses 40 years old and above, high school graduate nurses, nurses working for 0-11 months, nurses working in the divisions with their own will, nurses not wantint to work in a different job, nurses not doing the jobs thinking that they are not their responsibilities and nurses living in the city had the most job satisfaction rate.
