Investigation of free time satisfaction levels and social media use levels of students studying at School of Physical Education and Sports and Faculty of Education at Afyon Kocatepe University

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the relationship between free time satisfaction levels and social media usage levels of university students was investigated. The sample of the study consists of 470 students studying at the School of Physical Education and Sports and Faculty of Education. According to the data obtained, 38.51% of the participants stated that they do sports in their free time, 7.87% of them play instruments, 4.47% of them paint and 3.40% of them play football. The most preferred social media applications of the participants were Whatsapp with 92.77%, Instagram with 91.91% and Youtube with 88%. The least preferred applications were Foursquare (1.49%) and Vine (1.49%). According to the results of the comparison analysis, statistically significant differences were determined in terms of gender, department, faculty, place of residence, Daily Average Leisure Time, Social Media Usage Status, Social Media Daily Usage Time, Leisure Usage Efficient Status. On the contrary, there was no statistically significant difference in terms of age, class, personal skill that can be enjoyed with leisure time, the duration of using social media and the basic factor that restricts the leisure time.
