The observation of the knowledge and the attitudes of the Afyon Kocatepe University' Students about family planning and emergency contraseption

SUMMARY A study of knowledge and attidutes of students at university of Afyon Kocatepe on family planning and emergency contraseption. This research outlines the knowledge and attidutes of students who study in different faculties and institutes of Afyon Kocatepe University on family planning and emergency contraseption. The survey was conducted among 900 in different classes in November and December of year 2003. Their age was averaged out as 21,7and 91,2% of them were single. They got knowledge about family planning mostly from their friends and media. The research has showed that 49,3% of students can make true definitation of family planning. According to the survey results on students knowledge about methods of family planning 47,7% of students gave accurate answers about the permaent method, 49%of them about the long term method, 63% of them about the short term about and 55,2% of them about the traditional method. The most well-known methods for family planning were oral contraseption, intrauterin devices and condom. 81,9% of students knew that emergency contraseption needed to be used froman unproctected mideyle sexual intercourse, rape or method failure. When they were asked about the knowledge of the emergency contraseption and their approach to it. It was seen that 65,8% of students knew hormonal methods, 19,8% of them intrauterin devices and 12% of them menstruel regulation methods.
