Investigation the using of Afyonkarahisar volcanic rocks in hot mix asphalt pavements as aggregate

Prof. Dr. Hüseyin AKBULUTPer year nearly 100 million tons of aggregates are used in road construction in Turkey.The quality of aggregates as a main material of the construction of road pavementslayers, is very important from the point of view of mechanical resistance, long servicelife, traffic safety and environmental impacts.The long-term performance of HMApaveemnts is strongly dependent on the characteristics of the aggregate in the mixture.This study was performed as pre investigation to determination of volcanic originatedaggregate sources and investigation of using in hot mix asphalt pavements wearingcourses. Rock samples which were take in Afyonkarahisar City-İscehisar District-Seydiler Small town-Tekerek and Kepez Area, transform to aggregates and sieved as 3different fraction (0-6 mm, 6-16 mm- 16-25 mm) and coarse fractions were washed.Aggregates samples performed to Los Angeles Abrasion, Impact Value,waterabsorbing, specific gravity tests were performed. After the aggregates tests, sampleswere performed to the Marshall Stability-Flow tests. And test results were compared tocontrol samples that were produced from limestone aggregates.
