Study of hypertension prevalence and associated criteria by people over 40 in the sub-prefecture of dinar province of afyonkarahisar

Hypertension is one of the most important non-contagious chronic diseases. The aim of this study is to determine hypertension prevalence and associated factors by people aged 40 and over leaving in the sub-prefecture of Dinar sited in the province of Afyonkarahisar.This research is based on inhabitant?s data given by the Department of Health.From Dinar Centrum, its villages and its municipalities; 898 persons were included in the population sample proportionally all of them were joined. The technique used in this study was face to face interviewing?s. The blood pressure was measured according to the criteria in the 7th report of JNC. The obesity was measured according to the body mass index (BMI).The average age of the population sample was 57,4 ± 11,4. This population sample was constitued of 52% of women. The hypertension prevalence found in this popuulation was 47,6%. The observed hypertension prevalence was 43,4% for men and 51,4% for women. About 98,2% of the sample population declared that they had already measured their tension before. The 76,6% of person who were determined as hypertensive declared that they knew about it. Hypertension prevalence decreased by people whith a higher level of education. Older the people are and higher prevalence is, and the highest degree is observed by people over 65. The hypertension prevalence observed was significatively higher by people who have a BMI ? 30 (58,9%). 65,3% of people who described themeselve as stressed were significatively hypertensive. The part of hypertenive person is 74,6% for people with families antecedents, yhis part is 14% for people witout any antecedent. Hypertensive prevalence found for people who eat pickled food is 58,2%. By people who do not have physical activity, the proportion is 66,9%.As a result; this study is important in the way that it remembers us that hypertension is a widespread problem which reached and that we do not realize enough the importance of this problem so we do not treat enough this problem. So that, we have to practice rapidly the preventive programmes specifically to all group of age.Key Words : Dinar, hypertension, prevalence.
