Abstract (EN)
Magnesium alloys are widely used in the field of biomaterials. Its low toxicity and biodegradable properties provide great advantages in its use as biomaterials. Magnesium alloys help the formation of new tissues in the body, but they are the most attractive among metallic biomaterials because of their ability to biodegradability from the body after treatment process. However, the low corrosion properties of Mg alloys limit their used since they lead to biodegradability of the alloys before the treatment process is completed. Various surface modifications are being developed to overcome this limitation. In this thesis; AZ91 Ag doped Hydroxyapatite (HA) composite coatings were grown by Micro Arc Oxidation (MAO) method. Morphological properties of the coatings were determined by SEM and XRD instruments. The antibacterial properties of Ag and HA doped oxide layer which were grown by MAO method were added to AZ91 Mg alloy were investigated. The biodegradability of the coated and uncoated materials in the blood plasma were investigated. As a result of the experiments, the development of bacterial activity in the sample treated with MAO was prevented by adding HA and Ag to the standard solution. With the addition of Ag and HA to the standard solution, the biodegradability rate of the AZ91 Mg Alloy was improved. As a result of the incubation test in blood plasma, AZ91 Mg alloy was found to protect itself against biodegradability with a rate of approximately 89%.
