The philosophical/mystic bases of the concept of light in Ahmad al-Jazari's dîvân

In the Qur'an, Allah is defined as the light of the earth and the heavens. This has led to the fact that light is one of the main concepts of philosophy and mystic disciplines in patricular commentary. The most basic reason for this importance attributed to the concept of light is that Allah is both the only real being and the cause of existence of all other beings in the thought of Islam, and that, as manifestation of ontology and the name of the al-Âlim, is the source of knowledge, epistemology. Therefore, the concept of light is moved by Allah, has been used as a concept explaining both ontology and epistemology. In this context, it was tried to examine the philosophical / mystical basis of the notion of the light, which Ahmad al-Jazari's (d. 1640) uses on the basis of the Divan that is the only his known work. Jazari's thought was approached with regarded to, Mansur al-Hallaj (d. 922) who is the important alchemy of the philosophy of Sufism, Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (d. 1111), Shihab al-Din Suhrawardi (d. 1191) who was founder of the Islamic illuminationism and Muhyiddin Ibn al-Arabi (d. 1240). They are the basic elements that influence Jazari's to use the light concept such as Mansur al-Hallaj's understanding of making Nur-u Muhammadi as both a source of existence and a source of knowledge, the definition and interpretation of light by al-Ghazali, Suhrawardi's absolutism as Nûru'l-Anvar and his approach to explain the development of the existence with an abstract light coming from it and the style of Ibn al-Arabi's description of existence and his theology of divine names. In this way, after examining the concept of light context of the pre-Jazari term, then the meaning and place of the concept of light was questioned in the context of his ontology. In this context, in answer to the main question of thesis, "What is the position of Jazari in terms of Islamic thought in the concept of light?", is that he was a follower of the idea of wahdat-i wujudd that it was founded by Ibn al-Arabi in the Islamic lore tradition.
