Characters in Ahmed Fasîh Dede's Turkish Divan

Poets Express the images formed around individuals by reworking them in their own imaginative worlds. İn this process, not only the historical or biographical identities of the individuals but also their cultural and literary associations are brough into the poem. This not only broadens the concepts but also reveals new layeers of meaning in the poet's imagery. Ahmed Fasih Dede is a prominent representative of 17th-century Divan poetry. Due to his ranks on goverment, his Sufi identity, and his status as one of the leading poets of his time, his Divan, which contains a collection of his poems, encompasses a wide range of individuals. This study examines the individuals featured in Ahmed Fasih Dede's Divan and the world of meaning and imagery created around them. İn this study, the individuals in Fasih Dede's Divan were first identified, then after providing information about the individuals, the couplets depicting the individuals were translated into modern Turkish. The couplets were interpreted in terms of their meaning and imagery. This study, consisting of an introduction and nine headings, classifying characters, demonstrates that Ahmed Fasih Dede used characters for purposes such as strengthening narrative, conveying feelings and thoughts, and praising himself or herself. Ahmed Fasih Dede's Divan has been found to contain historical, mythological, legendary, religious, and Sufi figures, as well as other names used for various purposes. These characters are also evaluated in the relevant sections of our study.
