Comparison of the individual and society criticism Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's Time Regulation Institute and Thomas Bernhard's The Lime Works and The Loser

As "modernism" spreaded to almost every science field, the studies' courses are also changed. Modernism, which has found a wide place in the field of study of the humanities in particular, has been an important factor in the revision of the literary world. The age of Enlightenment in western Europe, the modernization movement in Turkey, which is officially recognized as having begun with the Edict of Tanzimat, has been the cause of Global Change. Developments in both Western Europe and Turkey have also changed the writers ' thinking structure. Austrian Thomas Bernhard, one of the authors who wrote in German, took a harsh stance when writing about the modernization process in Europe, and often criticized both the individual and society. Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, one of the building blocks of Turkish literature who wrote his works in a relatively plain language to Bernhard, tried to convey the development of modernism in Turkey to the reader through his characters. In this study, the similarities and differences of the concept of modernism were tried to be revealed in a comparative way through the works ; Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar's Time Regulation Institute, Thomas Bernhard's The Loser and The Lime Works. Comparative Literary science was applied in the comparison, and qualitative and quantitative scientific approaches were followed in the entire study. For sociological analysis M. Weber, E. Durkheim and K. Marx's teachings, for psychological analysis, S. Freud and C. G. Jung are referenced. In this study, the aim is to show that; when authors of two completely different cultures are analyzed by their works, mass movements in shape of modernism ocur relatively similarly in every culture when exceptional differences are disregarded. Literary criticism of the modern period was carried out through authors in the study, in which differences in the ratio of similarities were also tried to be revealed.
