Abstract (EN)

Novel began to be recognized in Turkish literature in the second half of the 19th century. It has been written in different narrative styles. Ahmet Mithat Efendi, one of our early novelists, had his own unique style of expression. Ahmet Mithat Efendi, who had an educational and moral perspective in his works, considered the novel both as a vehicle and as a goal. In this study, Ahmet Mithat Efendi's way of addressing to the reader by suspending the narrative stream was named as off-the-narrative technique. Non-narrative technique, as the main subject of the study, has two sources of inspiration: one is the romantic ecole in western literature and the other is old narratives. The ways that Ahmet Mithat Efendi addressed to the reader in the novel and the functions of the addressing in the novel were discussed.
