The expressions in the field of medicine in Ahmet Muhtar Omer's lexicon called Mu'cemu'l-Luğati'l-Arabiyyeti'l-Muâsira (The collection of modern Arabic language) – A study on structure and semantics

Ahmet Muhtar Omer's Mu'cemu'l-Luğati'l-Arabiyyeti'l-Muâsıra which has become prominent among contemporary linguists is one of the most distinguished outcomes of contemporary Arabic lexicon studies that are conducted via groupwork. This dissertation study assembles the expressions in the field of medicine in the relevant dictionary and evaluates them semantically. The study consists of introduction, four main chapters, and conclusion. The introduction dwells on the object, purpose, significance, method, and frame of the research.The first chapter includes information on the life, academic study, scientific personality, canon of Ahmet Muhtar Omer as well as the studies conducted on him. This chapter also contains explanations on Mu'cemu'l-Luğati'l-Arabiyyeti'l-Muâsıra and the expressions in the field of medicine that it has.The second chapter demonstrates the classification of the expressions in the field of medicine in the relevant dictionary according to their semantic fields upon providing general information on theories on semantics and semantic categories. The third chapter explains the semantic relations among dictionaries, which is followed by the examination of semantic relations among the expressions in the field of medicine that has been classified based on their semantic fields. The fourth chapter involves the structural classification of the expressions in the field of medicine in Mu'cemu'l-Luğati'l-Arabiyyeti'l-Muâsıra and the statistical data. The conclusion includes the evaluation of semantic and structural studies on the expressions in the field of medicine, the outcomes that are obtained as well as statistical data.
