Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, Ahmet Ümit's novels are analysed in the contexts of "other, marginalisation and suspicion". The other includes people, opinions, lifestyles and places that are outside of the person and help to understand me and us more. The other starts by defining the one outside of oneself. The other who is different from the concept of 'me' but whose existence is normal, the other who is beneficial to the society with his/her existence; the other up to this point is the accepted and essential other. In addition, the idea of the unloved other, the hated other, the other that needs to be dealt with, the other that needs to be prevented and finally the other that needs to be destroyed gradually makes the other dangerous. In this study, the source of suspicion, suspects, reasons for suspicion and how suspicion emerges were also tried to be determined. Doubt is, in a word, purgatory. It is the state of the mind and soul not being sure of someone or a situation. Why does doubt arise, what does it do, the relationship between doubt and reason, the necessity of doubt in the development and progress of many things in life and in solving events will also be seen in this study. In addition, while analysing Ümit's works, the concept of 'decorative suspicion' within the scope of the novel was also put forward by us as an opinion. These concepts were also identified in the novels. In this study, the concept of suspicion in the author's novels was also discussed. According to what does Ahmet Ümit reinforce his doubts and according to what does he weaken them? When does a reasonable doubt begin, when does this doubt become unreasonable or more reasonable? How the author uses clues, how he brings the reader closer to the murderer, or how he diverts attention away from the murderer and towards other suspects were discussed. Keywords: Ahmet Ümit; The Other; Otherization; Doubt.
