Analysis and comparison of a timber structure according to TS 647 and Eurocode 5

As a building material of wood goes back to ancient times. In recent years, with the development of technology, timber structures have been replaced by steel and reinforced concrete structures. People need shelter and protection during their lifetime. The construction material that formed the beginning of these needs was wood. The old buildings, which have survived from the past to the present, shed light on the history, have to be restored and made livable and transferred to the next generations. It is possible to understand and maintain the traditional timber structures and to make the modification of the structures by understanding whether the structural system is sufficient or not. In this study, a timber structure used for residential purposes in Bursa was investigated. In the first part of the study, there is an introduction. In the second part, similar studies were examined and necessary information was collected. In the third section, the definition of the general information about wood is given. The structure of the wood is shown with the help of the figure. The physical and mechanical properties of the timber building materials were examined, and the effects of the physical and mechanical properties on the structural materials were also considered. In the fourth part, the usage and importance of timber structures are mentioned. In the fifth section, folded and plan drawings related to the timber structure in Mudanya mütareke Quarter are shown and a preliminary report of the building is prepared. In the sixth chapter, the analysis and calculation of TS 647 timber structures were performed by using SAP2000 program according to the Regulation on Construction and Earthquake Zones. In the seventh section, the calculation of the girder and bearing systems of the structure according to TS 647 and Eurocode 5 standards has been made and compared. In the last part, opinions, suggestions and interpretations about the researched topics are made.
