The use of some herbal oils (flax seed, poppy, jojoba) in wood surface treatments and comparison of their performances

Today, people seek to escape from the artificial and return to the natural. For this reason, it is aimed to integrate the wood and reach the user with products that will show the naturalness of wood and will not harm people and nature. In this study, as a result of the application of natural poppy oil, jojoba oil and linseed oil to Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris), Eastern Beech (Fagus orientalis L.), Sapless Oak (Quercus petraea L.) and Walnut (Juglans regia) tree samples, the density value depends on the thickness. swelling rate, water absorption rate values were examined, surface roughness, surface gloss, color change and hardness tests were carried out as a result of natural aging. As a result of physical tests, it was observed that poppy oil in Scotch Pine and Eastern Beech samples, jojoba oil in Sapless Oak samples, and poppy and linseed oils in Walnut samples provided the least volumetric change with their water-repellent properties. When the roughness, gloss and color data from the surface tests were evaluated according to the natural aging process, it was seen that poppy oil did not protect the surface well, it was found that flaxseed oil gave the best results in Scots pine samples, jojoba oil in Sapless Oak and Walnut samples. In the hardness measurements, the least hardness changes were seen in Scotch Pine wood with jojoba oil applied, in Sapless Oak wood with linseed oil applied, Eastern Beech and Walnut samples with poppy oil applied. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the use of applied oils would increase the durability of the wood material by providing water repellency in the wood. As a result of the surface tests, the awareness of oils on wooden surfaces was observed, and it is thought that the information in this direction will contribute to the literature.
