Grounding the morality of Islam in the framework of verse 57 of Surah al-Ahzab

Allah has chosen Islam as the religion for humanity and has perfected it. The primary source of this religion, the Qur'an, contains universal principles and rules that regulate the individual and social lives of believers. At the center of these principles lies the concept of morality; morality also encompasses faith and acts of worship. Consequently, the Qur'an serves as a guide with lasting validity until the Day of Judgment, presenting a solid and unchanging foundation for morality. However, today the concept of morality has not fully retained the position it deserves in individual and social life. This situation necessitates a reexamination of the understanding of morality. Therefore, improving the functioning of morality in life first requires a mental transformation; for this purpose, it is essential to establish a general moral law encompassing all moral principles and to give meaning to these principles accordingly. In this context, the first chapter outlines the general framework of the concept of morality and explains its relationship with Islamic sciences. In the second chapter, verse 57 of Surah Al-Ahzab is analyzed linguistically and semantically, and then evaluated in terms of its moral fonction. Finally, based on the relevant verse, Islamic morality is grounded upon the principle of "not harming Allah and His Messenger." Accordingly, a Muslim's effort to avoid harming Allah and His Messenger in every behavior significantly contributes to leading a moral life.
