A sociological evaluation on the family building

In this study, the Family Building, which is a common form of housing in Turkey, is discussed. Family building, where kinship patterns are used tightly in the city, have developed a sui generis structure which is in the form of a nuclear family in terms of demographics whereas exceeds the nuclear family in terms of family relations. The use of space differs in terms of reproduction and ownership from other buildings. Moreover, every family building has a personal history that intertwines with the family's past. In this study, the structure and functions of the family buildings were tried to be revealed through the history and present of the families. During the research process, in-depth interviews were made, houses were visited, and a phenomenological method was used. One apartment from each family building was interviewed. In the family buildings which were scattered; tensions between families, the process of leaving the building and conflict were focused on. In the ongoing family buildings, the process of solidarity, the boundaries between families and the tactics to maintain the togetherness were tried to be discovered. In addition, in each interview, the establishment process and property relations of the building were examined. The first part of the study focuses on the adventure of the family in the world, and the second part focuses on the adventure in Turkey. With this approach, it is aimed to determine the historical position of the family building and to deal with family and kinship relations from a historical perspective.
