Abstract (EN)

Aim: Hypertension is the most common chronic disease encountered in family medicine. The aim of this research; evaluation of patient view on hypertension management in family medicine. Method: The research; It is cross-sectional and descriptive and was conducted in 4 different family health centers in Trabzon between December 2020 and April 2021. The research included 384 patients over 18 years of age with essential hypertension for more than 1 year. "Patient View Evaluation Questionnaire on Hypertension Management in Primary Care" prepared by the researchers was applied to the participants by face to face interview method. Results: The mean age of the participants was 60.1 (±10.3) years, and 56.8% were women. While the rate of patients being diagnosed with HT in family medicine is 6.5% (n=25), the rate of patients in whom HT treatment is initiated is 5.7% (n=22). The rate of applying to family medicine in the follow up of hypertension was found 18.8% (n=72). İnternal medicine was the most frequently applied branch in the diagnosis, treatment and follow up of HT, followed by cardiology. The mean age and duration of HT of patients diagnosed in internal medicine were significantly higher when compared to cardiology and family medicine (p=0.000). Patients followed in cardiology were more regularly going to follow up of HT compared to others (p=0.000). 55.5% of the patients (n=213) thought that HT treatment was not administered by their family physicians, this rate was significantly higher in patients followed in cardiology compared to others (p=0.001). Conclusion: It has been observed that family medicine is not effective in the diagnosis, treatment and follow up of hypertension. We found that most of the patients thought that the treatment of hypertension was not done by their family physician, they did not trust their family physician enough in this regard, and they felt the need to go to another specialist.
