Abstract (EN)
The topic of my thesis is; Violence towards women is considered a violation of basic human rights, as much as it is a problem around the World it is one of the biggest problems in Turkey as well. Women in every stage of their life have to endure sufferings and oppressions, and the most important reason is known to be the patriarchal system of society. The role of women, set by society has made them be the second important gender and has caused discriminative actions towards them. With the male ego being fed by this view, it brought up the base for violence towards women. Violent acts towards women have been mainstreamed from the start of the 1970s and since then important legislation was established to prevent it. Since 2001, with the integration process to the European Union, there were several legislations created such as to equalize both genders, prevent any discrimination, and to prevent any violence towards women. Our work has three main sections, including our domestic laws towards violent acts on women. In the first section, we have mentioned family, violence, and domestic violence attitudes towards women, types of violence, and its possible effects on women, men, and kids. In the second section, we included domestic law regulations we have established against violent acts towards women. In the third and last section we have discussed preventative actions to protect women; specifically on how, where, and in which situations the government should interfere. According to Turkish Civil Code, the Law No. 4787 on the Establishment, Duties and Trial Procedures of Family Courts and the Law no: 6284 to Protect Family and Prevent Violence Against Women. we have established how should the judge and the administration could process regarding the protective and preventative actions toward women.
