Investigation of professional management understanding in family companies and an application in Kayseri

The main purpose of this study is to examine and determine the point of understanding of professional management in family businesses operating in Kayseri. In the family business, the traditional management approach of the family overcomes the professional management values and rules of the company, and family members tend to act with their own trial and error methods. Although the board of directors consists of family members, it may occasionally emerge as company structures in which professional managers have a say in management. However, the inadequacy of experienced, educated managers who are competent in the business can cause disagreements and conflicts with family members during administrative decisions. Maintaining the blood tie in the authorization is one of the main reasons for the decrease in the morale and motivation of non-family members and disruptions in management activities. The impact of family management on family businesses is reflected in marketing, planning, public relations, research and development and human resources. Therefore, management approach and management activities follow a parallel course. The sample of the study consists of the managers of family companies in various sectors active in Kayseri province (n = 380). The aim of this research is to measure the professional management understanding of family companies by using the studies carried out in the literature For this purpose, a scale consisting of 18 items was developed to evaluate the different aspects of professional management in family businesses. Following the creation of the scale, the expressions of the scale were taken from the expert opinions of the faculty members experienced in business and scale development. Necessary arrangements were made on the scale in accordance with expert opinions and the scale was finalized. In this study, the professional management approach in family businesses operating in various sectors in Kayseri was examined and it was found that the family management structure had a high level of impact on the professional management approach.
