Abstract (EN)
The hardness of steels after hardening, is the crowning of the factors in buying, without a shadow of doubt. The knowledge of hardening deprth and hardening ability enables the steel selection. Being cheap, easy and practical of the method that is used to determine the cepability of hardening will maintain it to be used extensively. At the present day the most common hardenability test is Jominy-giving water on one side test which is developed by Jominy. Jominy curves obtained after Jominy test are the first remembered curves to compare the hardness of the same class steels. Jominy curves can also be used to anticipate the hardenability dispersal of the different dimensioned steel bars which are hardened by cooling in different media. In this study, SAE/AISI 1040-2738 and 304 steels are hardened by Jominy- giving water on one side method; Jominy curves are obtained; structure differences are observed after hardening by taking micro structure pictures.
