Abstract (EN)

In this study, propagation and vase life of Butcher?s broom (R. aculeatus L.) which naturally grows in the Mediterranean Basin were investigated. The experiment was conducted in four consecutive stages. In the first stage of experiment, root performing abilities of rhizome fragments were examined by using 50, 100 and 250 ppm doses of IBA. The maximum number of root and shoot formations were obtained from control group whereas the minimum number of root and shoot were obtained from 250 ppm IBA applications. Plant tissue culture studies were carried out by using rhizome eyes. MS media supplemented with 0.5 ppm BA X 0.05 ppm IBA, 1.5 ppm BAX 0.15 ppm IBA , 2.5 ppm BA X 0.15 ppm IBA was used throughout tissue culture studies. On the other hand, MS media supplemented with 0.01 ppm BA X 1 ppm BA and 0.01 ppm BA X 5 ppm IBA was used as a rooting medium. The maximum shout formation was obtained from the combinations of 1.5 ppm BA and 0.15 ppm IBA. The maximum rooting were occurred into MS medium supplemented with 0.01 ppm BA and 5 ppm IBA. In the third stage, seed germination ability of the species was investigated. During the seed germination trials, no germination was observed at all. In the final stage, vase life of cut greens was searched. At the last day of the vase life (24th day), almost all green cuttings which were treated 4 mM and 10 mM STS turned into pale. But, both the control group and 2 mM STS applied cuttings better than that of cuttings in the other groups.KEY WORDS: Butcher?s brom, IBA, rhizome, rooting, Ruscus aculeatus L., STS, vase life
