The historical change of accumulated winter chill of the cities on the Mediterranean coast of Türkiye

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to determine the historical change in winter chill accumulation of some provinces in the Mediterranean coastal region. For this purpose, winter chill accumulation during the period from 1940 to 2020 of Izmir, Aydın, Muğla, Adana, Hatay and Mersin provinces by using 5 different methods ((0-7.2 C Model, Utah Model, Modified Utah Model, Positive Utah Model Dynamic Model). Then, time-dependent changes in chill accumulation in these provinces were examined using Mann-Kendal trend analysis. As a result of the trend analysis, a significant time-dependent decreasing trend was determined in all chill accumulation amount calculated by 5 different methods in Adana, Mersin and Aydın. The change in the chill accumulation amount of Izmir, Hatay and Muğla over many years differed depending on the chilling accumulation calculation models used. While the chill accumulation amounts calculated with the Utah and Dynamic models in Muğla have a decreasing trend, it has been determined that the chill amounts calculated with other models do not have a significant decreasing or increasing trend. While there was a decreasing trend in the amount of chilling calculated by the 0-7.2 model and the Utah model in Izmir, no significant trend was detected in the amount of chilling obtained from other models. In Hatay, it has been determined that the chilling amount obtained from by the Modified Utah and Dynamic models tend to decrease over time, but there is no such trend in the chill accumulation amount calculated using other models.
