An examination of the intelligence types and prosocial behaviors of primary school students playing mind and intelligence games

The purpose of this study is to examine the types of intelligence and prosocial behaviors of elementary school students who play mind and intelligence games. The study used the survey model as a quantitative research method. The research group consisted of 74 elementary school students (31 girls and 43 boys) who were elected as first-place winners at the school level for the tournaments organized by the Turkish Mind and Intelligence Games Federation (TMIGF) in the Yıldırım District of Bursa Province in the 2024-2025 academic year. During the data collection process, the "Multiple Intelligence Scale for Elementary School Students" developed by Yüksel and Çeliköz (2021) and the "Child Prosociality Scale: Child Form" developed by Ata and Artan (2022) were used. The direction and strength of the relationships between the scales were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis. The study found no direct relationship between children's types of intelligence and prosocial behaviors. However, it revealed that cooperation has a positive and significant relationship with sharing, empathy, and prosocial behavior; sharing has a positive and significant relationship with empathy; and empathy has a positive and significant relationship with prosocial behaviors. This situation shows that prosocial development is more closely linked to emotional and social interaction processes and that these processes can develop independently of cognitive intelligence types.
