Physical education and sport alternative measurement assessment of teachers competence of using methods and tools, problems and solution proposals

In this study, it is aimed to examine the competencies of physical education and sports teachers working in Aksaray province to use alternative measurement and evaluation methods, problems they face and solution suggestions. The study group consists of 141 physical education and sports teachers working in schools affiliated to the Ministry of Education in the 2018-2019 academic year. Descriptive model is used in the study and simple random sampling method was preferred. The personal information form prepared by the researcher as a data collection tool, the questionnaire developed by Anıl and Acar (2009) in order to determine the competence of the participants to use alternative measurement and evaluation method tools and the open-ended survey question to determine the problems experienced during the use of alternative measurement and evaluation method tools used. As a result of the normality test, non-parametric tests were applied and Chi Square test was used for the analysis of the questionnaire items and findings from the open-ended questionnaire were subjected to content analysis. A statistically significant difference was found in favor of the participants who have masters degree in the sub-dimensions of the competency total score, development file and observation forms of the participants' ability to use alternative measurement-assessment methods and tools. In the sub-dimensions of self-assessment and peer assessment and observation forms, a statistically significant difference was found in favor of the participants who received in-service training for measurement and assessment. On the other hand, it is seen that the solution suggestions for the problems experienced during the implementation of alternative measurement and evaluation methods are gathered under 8 different categories.
