Abstract (EN)

Heat pumps are highly efficient systems that transfer heat from a low-temperature source to a high-temperature environment, capable of both heating and cooling. They are widely implemented in industrial facilities to achieve the goals of energy efficiency, reducing fossil fuel consumption, and reducing carbon emissions. This study presents the technical and economic analysis of a water source heat pump (SKIP) application within the scope of energy audits conducted at a Tire Industry and Trade Inc. facility in Aksaray. The study aims to increase energy efficiency, reduce natural gas consumption, and reduce carbon emissions. Using the SKIP system, heat removed from the cooling towers was recovered and directed to process heating needs. The data obtained in the study show that 1,262,882 kWh of electricity was consumed, corresponding to an annual natural gas savings of 6,788,251 kWh, resulting in a net savings of 475.18 TEP/year and a CO₂ emission reduction of 797.89 tons. The economic analysis calculated annual savings of 5.7 million TL and a payback period of 2.41 years. As a result of this implementation, emissions from natural gas consumption amounted to 1,588 tons of CO₂-e, while emissions from heat pump consumption amounted to 746 tons of CO₂-e. The additional reduction from electricity savings is 45 tons of CO₂-e. This total impact corresponds to an environmental benefit equivalent to the carbon sequestration of approximately 58,000 trees on an annual basis.
