Researching ofterrestrial insects of forensic importance in the south of Aksaray

Abstract (EN)

In this study, two domestic pigs' head belonging to Sus scrofa domestica have been put in a cage for identifying the insects having forensic importance to two different area within the campus site of Aksaray University in the south of Aksaray city. The insects coming on the carrion have been collected through field survey at the same time each day between 24.09.2014-24.11.2014. Also, the decay stages of the carrion have been detected by taking photos of the postmortem physical changes in the pigs' heads belonging to Sus scrofa domestica during this time. It has also been tested and evaluated soil ph, moisture, amount of light and temperature. The samples collected have been brought to the laboratory and the insect species and their succession have been identified. It has been identified 7 species belonging to Calliphoridae, Muscidae, Fanniidae, Sargophagidae families from Diptera; 17 species and two subspecies belonging to Histeridae, Staphylinidae, Nitidulidae, Staphylinidae, Silphidae, Dermestidae, Cleridae, Scarabaeidae, Carabidae. The identified taxons are: Lucilia cuprina, Lucilia sericata, Calliphora vicina, Chrysomya albiceps, Musca domestica, Fannia scalaris, Sarcophaga argyrostoma (Diptera); Philonthus intermedius, Philonthus concinnus, Philonthus corruscus, Philonthus eruentatus, Phyllodrepa floralis, Philonthus cunicolorum, Aleochora lata, Atheta sp., Saprinus subnitescens, Saprinus planiusculus, Saprinus semipunctatus, Nitidula flavomaculata, Nitidula carnaria, Thanatophilus sinuatus, Silpha obscura orientalis, Dermestes frischii, Necrobia rufipes, Aphodius sp., Harpalus smaradinus (Coleoptera) species. This is the preliminary study and a first report of the terrestial insects of forensic importance in Aksaray.
