Effect of active resting times on repeated maximal swimming performances

There is not information about which time period the high performance is obtained after warm up in swimming sport. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of different time intervals on repeated swimming performance after warm-up and to evaluate the contributions of active rest type during these periods. Nine competing swimmers with an average age of 16 and continuing active swimming training participated in the study. After the dynamic warm-up protocol, swimmers, 1200 meters (~25dk) in-water warm-up protocol was applied in the swimming pool whose environmental conditions are standardized. On different days, three different active resting intervals (15, 30, and 45 minutes) were carried out on land with standard clothes at their self-pace. The 100 meters maximum performance test was immediately completed at the end of the active rest periods and the second time performance test was repeated after 15 minutes of in-water active rest. During this process, body temperature and heart rate were recorded by using tympanic and thermal methods regularly in every 5 minutes. For statistical analysis of the collected data, variance analysis test (repeated measures ANOVA) was used for repeated measurements. Consequently; There was no statiscally significant result of rest perdiods regarding performance [F(2,16)=1,53 η²=,159 P=0,0250]. it was thought that the most effective resting interval was 30 minutes in terms of repetitive swimming performance, that the termination of the warm-up of the swimmers 30 minutes before the start of the competition could contribute positively to the performance.
