Abstract (EN)
Turbulent flows are one of the most important and challenging phenomena in fluid mechanics. Passive grids are one of the first attempts to create and examine turbulent flows, but their effectiveness in producing higher levels of turbulence is not sufficient. Therefore, active grid designs are emerging with rotating winglet design, which can achieve higher levels of turbulence. This paper reviews different active grid designs and motion protocols. Most of the active-grid studies are experimental. In this paper numerical methods are used and validity of the numerical simulation is checked with several methods, so that the capacity of LESsimulations for the design of active grids can be assessed. The motion of the winglet is one of the most crucial parts of designing an active grid. The most common protocols are random motion and controlled motion. In this paper, a different approach is conducted as an optimized motion where frequency of the rods are optimized with two objective functions. This study examines the relationship between active grid motion and the level of turbulence using several methods.
