Effects of ellagic acid on antioxidant enzymes and fatty acids in acute exercise rat liver tissues

Abstract (EN)

Ellagic acid is a natural antioxidant molecule. Acute exercise has many negative effects on metabolic tissues. This thesis study investigated the effects of ellagic acid on the liver tissues of rats undergoing acute exercise. Rats were divided into Control (C), Ellagic acid (E), Acute exercise (A), and Acute exercise + Ellagic acid (AE) groups. Acute exercise was performed on the Treatmill device. After the experiment, MDA, GSH, CES, AChE, GST, GR, and fatty acid levels were examined in the rat liver tissues. MDA levels in Group A increased compared to Group K, but GSH and GR levels decreased. MDA levels in Group AE decreased compared to Group A. GSH levels in Group AE increased compared to Group A. GR enzyme activity levels in Group AE increased compared to Group A. AChE enzyme levels in Group K increased compared to Group E. CES enzyme activity levels in Group A increased compared to Group A. However, CES enzyme activity levels in Group A decreased in Group AE. While the 18:0 fatty acid level in the K group increased compared to the other groups, no difference was found between the groups in ΣSFA, ΣUSFA, ΣPUFA, or ΣMUFA levels. The study results indicated that ellagic acid had a protective effect on the liver tissues of rats undergoing acute exercise. Keywords: Acute exercise; Rat; Liver; ellagic acid; Enzyme
