Abstract (EN)
The developments in the aviation and aerospace industry reveal the need for new and superior materials. The most important of these materials are fiber metal layer (FMT) composites. This interest in FMT composites stems from the combination of the excellent properties of metal and composite components. FMT composites are hybrid materials developed to be used in parts of the aircraft subject to fatigue and on which R&D studies continue. For machining and shaping FMT composite parts, machining, such as drilling, milling, turning is needed. However, machining of these materials is different from the machining of both metallic materials and composite materials. In their machining, problems such as dimensional deviation, deformation, poor surface quality and burrs occur. In order to overcome these problems, it must be machined in appropriate processing parameters. In this study, it was aimed to determine the drilling performance of FMT composites. High speed steel (HSS), TiN coated HSS and hard carbide (WC) cutting tools were used as cutting tools for drilling tests. Experiments were carried out at the spindle speeds of 1000, 2000 and 3000 rpm and the feed rates of 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 mm/rev. The aim is to experimentally investigate the effects of cutting tool material, the spindle speed and feed on cutting force, maximum diameter, diameter deviation and burr height. With increasing spindle speed, cutting force and burr height increased while hole diameter deviation decreased. Cutting force, hole diameter deviation and burr height have increased with increasing feed. The best results were obtained from experiments using hard carbide cutting tools.
