Investigation of voice characterstics of individuals diagnosed with allerhic rhinitis by objective and subjective methods

In this study, it was aimed to examine the voice characteristics of individuals with allergic rhinitis (AR) by using perceptual, aerodynamic, and acoustic methods. In our study, a comparative descriptive research model was used between individuals with and without AR diagnosis. The independent variable of the research is voice disorder due to AR. The dependent variables of the study are the rhinitis quality of life scale (RQS), the vocal fatigue index (VFI), the voice-related quality of life scale (V-RQOL), the GRBAS scale, the maximum phonation time (MPT), s/z ratio, and acoustic parameters. The evaluation process of the participants was carried out at Samsun University Samsun Training and Research Hospital. SPSS 23 was used in the statistical analysis of the study. Kolmogorov Smirnov test was used to determine the difference between the groups in the study. Pearson and Spearman's correlation coefficients were calculated to look at the relationship between the parameters. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the MFS averages of the individuals with AR were lower than the healthy individuals, and the s/z averages were higher. There was no difference between the F0 value of individuals with AR and healthy individuals. Jitter and shimmer values were found to be significantly higher. HNR values of individuals with AR were found to be lower than healthy individuals. The GRBAS averages of individuals with AR were found to be higher than healthy individuals. VFI and RQS values were found to be higher, and V-RQOL values were lower. According to the findings, the result of the research is that AR negatively affects the voice characteristics of individuals.
