Abstract (EN)

Language is a flexible means of communication that adapts to the conditions of its time. The rapid development of science and technology leads to the emergence of new objects and concepts. Various word-formation methods are employed to address these new objects and concepts. Word formation naturally takes place within the structural framework and possibilities of each language. Turkish, in terms of its structure, belongs to the group of agglutinative languages, specifically to the subgroup of suffixing languages. In Turkish, the most commonly used methods for creating necessary words are derivation and compounding. Derivation, in essence, also relies on the principle of compounding, where different morphemes are combined to create new structures. Traditional compounding models include word + suffix and word + word combinations. There are also combinations formed through methods such as partial word merging, referred to as hybrid methods, where parts of words are combined (e.g., akıllı + bilet > akbil, arge > araştırma + geliştirme). Another method involves the merging of initials, known as acronymization (e.g., Türkiye Otomobil Girişim Grubu > TOGG, Toplumsal Olaylara Müdahale Aracı > TOMA). Alphanumeric structures are created by combining letters and numbers. These structures serve as semantic units corresponding to specific objects or concepts. Such linguistic formations may include letter + number, number + letter, word + number, number + word, or number + suffix combinations. These lexical structures can be used in various types of names, such as personal names, product names, brand names, institution names, and terms. For instance, the ISO 9000 certificate represents a quality standard, 3D glasses refer to technology that provides three-dimensional viewing, Mount K2 denotes the second-highest mountain in the world, and Vitamin B12 is a term in biochemistry. The emergence of alphanumeric names can be attributed to factors such as the difficulty of naming an increasingly diverse range of products, efforts to prevent security issues in information technology, the influence of established perceptions and judgments on brand naming in marketing, and the desire for fast, concise, and effective naming. The tendency toward abbreviation in spoken and written language has also contributed to the formation of these structures. Abbreviated words can be characterized by letters, while numbers may indicate a specific aspect of the object or concept. The use of alphanumeric linguistic structures in language and the inclusion of some alphanumeric forms in dictionaries suggest that these structures have the potential to become lexicalized. These linguistic forms, which deviate from the traditional appearance of word structures, are noteworthy from a morphological perspective. This study examines alphanumeric linguistic structures as a part of the lexicon and aims to discuss alphanumeric word formation within the scope of the literature. Additionally, it seeks to provide a theoretical foundation for future linguistic studies on these structures, thereby contributing to modern linguistic research.
