A study on the stories and critical essays of Alim Kahraman

Âlim Kahraman is a writer who has written various types of texts and produced numerous works. Over a period of more than forty years, he has published writings in various outlets, primarily magazines, and has produced twenty-seven works in collaboration with the ones he edited. Similarly, he continues to write and publish books without interruption. Despite being a significant writer for Turkish literature, no thesis has been conducted about him until today. The purpose of this study is to evaluate Âlim Kahraman and his authorship, specifically examining his works in the genres of short stories and criticism, and thus determining his place in the literary world. In this study, while briefly touching upon Âlim Kahraman's life and all his works, the main focus is on the author's short story books, stories not included in his books, and criticism and review books. In the course of this study, first, information about the author's personal and literary life is provided, and all the books he has written and edited are classified according to their genres. In the second section of the study, all of the author's short stories are examined, and their structural and thematic features are evaluated in detail. In the third section, the criticism books are addressed, and after being classified according to their subjects, the author's approach to criticism and his criticism system are examined. The essays included in the author's criticism books are also included in this evaluation in terms of content. As a result of the examination, it is observed that all the short story books consist of interconnected "river stories," and the author prefers to conceal the elements of character, place, and time. It is also noted that he frequently employs postmodern techniques. In his criticisms, he generally adopts an objective approach and aims to present observations on various elements of the text, primarily the theme. Consequently, it is evident that Âlim Kahraman has developed a unique style and attitude in his short stories and criticisms, and he has made innovations in many aspects without repeating himself.
