Adult attention defisit hiperactivity disorder symptoms in alcohol and substance dependents

Alcohol and drug addiction has dominated a large portion of the Turkish and world agendas because of the affect it is having on society. This is an important issue because it affects both the biopsychosocial and psychosocially aspects of an addict which can be related to their social circle. Multiple intelligence testing should be used in future research in order to measure the affects of addiction on the cognative abilities of those with addictions to alcohol and drugs.Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) once was considered to be a behavior issue that only affected children, however, resent research has discovered that ADHD can also affect adults which have been identified through their symptoms in clinical studies. With the identification of adult ADHD more research and studies have initiated as well as being placed on the psychiatry agenda.In a recent study which included 59 people addicted to alcohol and 40 addicted to drugs. This study compared the participants in terms of sociodemographic features, ADHD symtoms, and also displayed signs of depression with a control group included 100 people that were not affected with addictions.In the aforementioned study it was discovered that addictions affected males more than females and that the averaged age of those addicted to drugs were lower than those addicted to alcohol. The marital status, income level, and education status variables were higher in the control group then those in the experimental group. compare to the alcohol group. The above variables had a greater affect on those addicted to drugs. When the forensic and criminality of the two groups were examined, the frequency of infractions with the law were again higher in the experimental group than those in the control group. With regards to those in the experimental group, those with drug addictions experinced more infractions of the law then those addicted to alcohol.Those patients addicted to both alcohol and drugs showed more depressive symptoms then those who were addicted to either drug or alcohol alone, and those addicted to drugs had more depressive symptoms then those with alcohol addictions.When impulsivity and irritability were investigated from the bottom test scores, the patients addicted to both alcohol and drugs displayed more impulsive behavior than those in the control group. It should also be noted that those with drug addictions experinced more impulsive and irritablity than those with alcohol addictions.The experimental group experience more academic and attention problems then those in the control group and scored more poorly in their academics becasue of their addictions.As a result of this research, those addicted to alcohol or drugs are more likely to experince ADHD simultaneouly with their addiction. The patients who are diagnosed with childhood ADHD are more inclined to develop addictions then those not identified as having childhood DEHB. Future reseach should include a wider range of investigations that include a larger experimental and control group as well as investigating preventative measures for children diagnosed with childhood DEHB
