Investigation of impulsivity levels of drivers who have been confiscates due to drinking

Every year, approximately 1.3 million people die worldwide due to traffic accidents and 20-50 million have non-fatal injuries. One of the main causes of road accidents is reported as drunk driving. Drivers who are found to drive while drinking alcohol for the second time in our country are given a certain amount of administrative fine and their driver's licenses are taken back for two years and the drivers are subjected to Driver Behavior Development Training (SÜDGE). In this study, it is aimed to examine the impulsivity levels of drivers whose licenses were confiscated due to drunk driving. The universe of the study consisted of drivers whose licenses were confiscated for the second time due to drunk driving, and the sample consisted of individuals aged 18 and over who participated in the Driver Behavior Development Training (SÜDGE) affiliated to Adana Public Health Directorate. In the study, the Sociodemographic Data Form, in which sociodemographic characteristics were questioned, and the UPPS Impulsive Behavior Scale, which has four subscales such as "congestion", "lack of design", "imperseverance" and "excitement seeking" were applied. The data obtained from the study were compared with individuals who did not participate in the Driver Behavior Development Training (SÜDGE). When the UPPS total score averages of the study and comparison groups of the participants were compared according to their driving history; A statistically significant difference was found between the mean scores of those who have driven vehicles for 2-5 years (p=0.047) and those who have driven vehicles for 10 years or more (p<0.001). In addition, considering their traffic violations other than drunk driving; A statistically significant difference was found between the mean scores of those who responded "speeding" (p=0.035), "parking violation" (p=0.017) and "passing a red light" (p=0.007). As a result, it is recommended that training on traffic safety and rules be given continuously and interactively in formal and non-formal education programs in accordance with the age group of individuals.
