Unethical behaviors between sides during recruitment process the case of Turkey and Azerbaijan

This study aims to analyze unethical behaviors mutually exhibited by candidates and human resources (HR) professionals during the recruitment process. It theoretically explores the interaction between human resource management, selection phases, and ethics. The unethical behaviors of both parties during the process are then analyzed using qualitative data. A semi-structured interview method was used with a total of seven participants: three HR managers and four applicants. Data were collected two weeks and analyzed using thematic analysis. According to the results, applicants reported discrimination during the selection process due to factors such as age, gender, and marital status. Female applicants were more frequently treated unethically. Furthermore, participants reported that not all applicants were treated fairly and equitably during interviews, and some suffered from psychological stress. Furthermore, HR managers noted that common unethical behaviors include candidates applying for positions without understanding or considering the job requirements, asking inappropriate personal questions during interviews, and lacking preparation. Given the limited research on this topic in Azerbaijani literature, this study makes a valuable contribution to filling the knowledge gap. The data collected in this study could contribute to the development of future regulations in this area and pave the way for further academic research.
