Efficiency of distance learning in German language and literature education in pandemic duration education investigation (Sakarya University example)

Technology shows itself in the first place in the education-teaching process that people born. In order for education to reach all human, technology is used in every field without being time or space limit. So new education models are needed, in which information transfer is freed from time and space limits. It has been inevitable to use technology in the field of education and training during the pandemic period of time we are experiencing. In the days when it is difficult for people to be together, it is tried not to disrupt the education-teaching life with the distance education model. During the pandemic period, as in all educational institutions, it has been decided that German Language and Literature undergraduate courses will be given by distance education as compulsory. The compulsory implementation of undergraduate courses in the German Language and Literature department in higher education in this way for the first time had a research element. In this study, it is aimed to examine the efficiency of distance education compared to formal education in the undergraduate courses of the Department of German Language and Literature at Sakarya University. As a result of the questionnaire applied to the students of the department and the interview made with the faculty members. As a result of the study, it has been revealed that distance education is not preferred by students and there are deficiencies in measurement and evaluation by lecturers.
