Abstract (EN)
In this study, the effect of using ethanol and methanol as an alternative fuel in a spark ignition engine was investigated thermodynamically. For this purpose, data from the experimental study conducted by Balki in the literature were used. In his work, a single-cylinder, air-cooled and spark-ignition test engine was used. Engine tests were performed at different compression ratios (CR) and ignition timing (IT). Performance and exhaust emission results obtained from experiments with constant engine speed (2400 rpm), and full-throttle opening were used in the theoretical study. With the experimental data, energy analyses of alternative fuels according to the first law of thermodynamics and exergy analysis according to the second law were performed. As a result, according to the energy analysis, total heat losses decreased with increasing CR. In addition; in the gasoline study, total heat losses decreased with advance IT, while reducing alcohol losses decreased by reducing IT in alcohol fuels. Exergy destruction was similar to total heat loss. When the results were evaluated in general, it was found that exergy destruction during the use of ethanol and methanol was high and needed to be improved.
