Abstract (EN)
Each nation has its own values and cultural characteristics, and these should be protected. It is quite easy to affect some families who have a complex (antipathy) toward their own values with movies. Especially today, the widespread communication network has removed borders, brought people closer to each other, and brought some threats with it. States have developed control mechanisms against actions that would disrupt their national unity and solidarity, the moral and family structure of society, as well as public safety through propaganda. In recent years, TV series and films that especially highlight cultural imperialism have also been subjected to control for a long time in this context. The censorship proceeding in audio-visual translation within the context of cultural imperialism is discussed in terms of Translation Studies and the power of foreign films to affect people within the context of cultural interaction and the ways in which their negative effects are eliminated by censorship; how they are done during audio-visual was examined. In the presented thesis, the censorship (audio-visual) applied to the films brought from abroad that were wanted to be screened in Turkey between 1919 and 1986 was tried to be explained by giving examples of films. In the audio-visual translation, it has been observed that different types of censorship (e.g., political, religious, and moral) are applied to the films in which the subject of censorship based on cultural imperialism is examined and evaluated. In the last part of the thesis, the documents that are the basis of the censorship were evaluated by taking them from the archives, and the documents showing the decisions made by the supervisory council based on the film are given in the appendix.
