Abstract (EN)

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an incurable progressive neurodegenerative disease that is the most common but not limited to old age. Despite all scientific efforts, there are still many unmet criteria and gaps in current treatment and diagnostic strategies, limiting their effectiveness. Poor drug efficacy is attributed to various biological barriers, such as the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and peripheral side effects, as well as the lack of promising carriers to fully deliver the drug to the brain while maintaining its therapeutic potency. The increasing prevalence of the disease and the lack of effective treatment requires the development of a more innovative, convenient and affordable way to treat AD. To meet this need, researchers have explored alternative treatment modalities in addition to the existing ones. In this review, we describe the normal and alternative methods are summarized.
