Vascular risk factors in alzheimer disease

That the exact cause is not known and shown as the most frequent reason of advanced age dementia is AD one of the degenerative diseases and its vascular risk factors in etiopathogenesis have become increasingly important. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relations between AD and the risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, ischemic heart disease, atrial fibrillation, obesity, smoking and alcohol consumption, atherosclerosis, elevated homocysteine, low B12 and folic acid and elevated CRP.In this study with the 46 patients who applied to Neurology polyclinic of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurology and were diagnosed clinically as Alzheimer?s disease and also in the same age a 30 people healthy control was evaluated.We have found low education level (p=0,005), HT (p=0,001), ischemic heart disease (p=0,003), atherosclerosis (p=0,001), hyperhomocysteinemia (p=0,001), low serum B12 (p=0,037) and folic acid (p=0,001) levels more important among Alzheimer?s disease patients than among control groups. It wasn?t detected significance difference between the patient and control groups in terms of DM, obesity (body mass index), hyperlipidemia, smoking and alcohol consumption, AF, serum total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglyceride, CRP levels.Vascular risk factors leads up to degeneration years before the clinical symptoms begin. It is important in the angle of prevention of Alzheimer?s disease that its etiology and definite treatment has not been clarified due to factors that their treatments can possible.
