Abstract (EN)
This research aimed to investigate the connections between emotional intelligence, mental toughness, and goal commitment among amateur soccer players in Şırnak province. Employing a descriptive relational screening model, the study focused on amateur soccer players in that region. With an indeterminate population size, the sample comprised 262 players. Data were gathered using the Personal Information Form, Emotional Intelligence Scale, Goal Commitment Scale, and Mental Toughness Inventory in Sport. The gathered data were rigorously analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The findings revealed significant connections between emotional recognition, emotional facilitation, and emotional regulation—sub dimensions of emotional intelligence—and confidence and constancy—sub-dimensions of mental toughness. However, the study did not find a significant link between the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence and the control dimension of mental toughness. This suggests that the control dimension might be more affected by personal traits, experience, or environmental factors rather than emotional intelligence. Additionally, sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence showed significant connections with goal commitment, and goal commitment was significantly linked with the sub-dimensions of mental toughness, namely confidence, constancy and control. The observed dynamic between these elements implies a mutual relationship, with goal commitment partially mediating the link between emotional intelligence and mental toughness.. Demographic factors like gender, age, and education don't significantly affect emotional intelligence, goal commitment, and mental resilience. However, marital status benefits experienced amateur soccer players in emotional facilitation, and the year of obtaining a bachelor's degree affects mental resilience control. Experienced amateur soccer players show improved control in handling difficulties and achieving goals. This study shows that emotional intelligence, mental toughness, and goal commitment among amateur soccer players are intricately connected. Enhancing performance can be achieved by training emotional intelligence, boosting mental resilience through psychological support, and strengthening goal-setting skills. Future research should explore these relationships in varied samples and use longitudinal studies to understand causal links, providing a foundation for further sport psychology research.
