Abstract (EN)
In the 1960s, sympathy for Soviet communism and anti-Americanism increased in the world. Many direct and indirect reasons such as preventing these situations, gaining American sympathy by the states, recognizing the American social structure and understanding of Christianity, and creating an American market have led the USA to the formation of a new institution. In 1960 J.F. Kennedy came up with the idea of forming the American Peace Volunteers during his election campaign. Founded in 1961, the American Peace Volunteers has served in many parts of the world. The American Peace Volunteers, who came to Turkey in 1962, worked in Turkey for about ten years in many fields such as health, education, social development and tourism. The activities of the American Peace Volunteers Organization were found to be negative and due to the anti-American reactions in the country, their work was stopped and they left Turkey in 1972. In this study, the establishment, aims and activities of the American Peace Volunteers Organization, as well as its activities in the province of Izmir, are emphasized. The details left in the memory of the public were examined.
