Özet (EN)

With the motto "Sapare aude!" (Dare to know), the enlightenment notion that emerged in Europe in 17th century assisted questioning by rationality over conventional judgment and provided a basis for a series of scientific developments and discoveries which has affected our today. Undoubtedly, one of the most important scientific developments and discoveries is evolution theory. Although this theory, which was systemized by Charles Darwin in 19th century, can be traced back to the philosophers of ancient times, its systemization and bounding waited until 19th century as the religion, religious knowledge and religious institutions had held sway especially over the continent Europe until Renaissance and Reform eras. Its coming to light caused drastic changes and intellectual turmoil in philosophy discipline and many science fields, especially in biological sciences. According to this theory proposed by Charles Darwin living species evolve by hereditary changes through generations and they acquire different features than they previously had. Ancestors of all the living is common, so all the living are consanguine; however, diversity grows as diverging from the common ancestor. Evolution causes gradual changes via mechanisms like natural selection, mutation, genetic drift or genetic hitchhiking and it always manifests itself as one of the mightiest forces in nature. Cinema is the most related branch of art with science and the scientific and it has relayed a lot of science fields, discoveries and information related to them and scientists by processing them into film scripts. Despite appearing less in movies than other scientists and science fields (e.g. cosmology or Karl Marx), Charles Darwin and Darwinism have become a gauge for conservation level of directors, film industries, hence societies. Viewing British and American cinemas with this criterion, it is seen that British cinema appears to be close to science and the scientific whereas American cinema has more conservative perspective.
