Peristyl'li residences in Anatolia

Anatolia is perhaps the most important of the first regions where human beings settled. The concept of housing refers to both an architectural structure and a living space as terminology in the literature. The way societies organize their living spaces gives us clues about the cultures they feel they belong to. Housing and settlement in Anatolia show a consistent and continuous historical development from culture to culture since early times. An understanding of this progress of more than twelve thousand years in its entirety can enable us to see not onlyits rootedness and richness, but that the diversity of the future is hidden in our understanding of society. In the process of maintaining the life of the family consisting of people who have come together with common benefit and blood ties, the house has taken a special and important place. There has been a mysterious world surrounded by walls. The needs for housing have formed the hanging of the house and are also divided into sections such as gardens, warehouses and workshops in relation to social life. This study is about the "Peristyl" type houses, the earliest examples of which we have seen in the Classical Period, but which are actually identified with the Hellenistic Period. Peristyl is an open courtyard with or without a garden, surrounded by columns. When starting the study, first of all, the origin of peristyl was emphasized and researches were carried out on this subject. In the following sections of the study, the peristyl dwellings in the Classical, Hellenistic, Roman and Late Antique Periods are described in the light of examples with a periodic distinction.
