Visual perception illusions at the Anatolian yüncü rugs (Balikesir region)

The main aim of this study is to investigate the relationship of Gestalt Perception Theory shape-ground relationship on nonwoven fabric. The aim of this study is to ensure that the data obtained during the research and the results achieved can be used in the carpet-rug design education-teaching processes and to be the forerunner in the later studies. According to Cavit Binbasoglu (1992, p.34), perception is the meaningful, systematic and wholesale reaction of the organism against objects and events. For this reason, perception is partly a learning-based personality response. Naturally, vision can be changed according to one's perception. According to Önder Yağmur (2014, p.149-151), Gestalt Perception Psychology, one of the most important psychological theories in visual perception and meaning, was formed in 1910 by Max Wertheimer, Kurt Koffka and Wolfgang Köhler. Gestalt theory is divided into six parts: shape-ground relationship, proximity, similarity, completion, continuity and simplicity. These sections are examined in detail in this study to emphasize the importance of perception psychology in design. In this thesis, the effects of visual perception, which is important in art education, on design are tried to be revealed. In this context, it is aimed to evaluate the relationship between motif, design, color and shape floor in the lint-free fabrics in the "Yüncü" rugs in the Balıkesir region. In addition to the examination of textiles, basic design, principles of design, principles that provide specificity in visual perception, concepts of perception psychology have been investigated. The objectives to be achieved are; To understand the difference between seeing and seeing, to comprehend the relationship between vision and perception, to realize the illusions of perception on textiles and to emphasize the importance of Gestalt Perception Theory in textiles with Kirkit. A total of twenty-nine kilims were reached in the study. Balıkesir's Yüncü villages were visited. The tradition of weaving in villages is over. It has been determined that there are elements on the rugs of the ancestors that prepare the ground for the illusion of visual perception. These elements are detailed in the study.
