Motivasyon ve çevrimiçi öğrenme arasındaki etkileşimler hakkında fransızca yabancı dil öğretmen ve öğrencilerinin algılarının analizi

As a result of the covid-19 pandemic in 2020, and the subsequent earthquake in Turkey in February 2023, Turkish universities have switched to mandatory online teaching to avoid any disruption to education. This study aims to determine the level of motivation of French foreign language students during online courses and to examine the effectiveness of this period for them. It also aims to highlight the different methods, strategies and techniques used by teachers of French as a foreign language in online courses and the factors that motivate them, as well as to reveal teachers' suggestions for improving the effectiveness of digital teaching. In line with these aims, we used the explanatory, mixed-method approach. Data were collected face-to-face from 191 students and 5 teachers in the preparatory department of the French as a foreign language teaching program at public universities. We used a motivational questionnaire for the students and a semi-structured interview for the teachers. Analyses have shown that students have a certain level of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, however many of them also have a certain lack of motivation. Analysis of students' opinions revealed that online foreign language learning is not sufficiently effective in this form and needs to be improved. Among the reasons for low effectiveness; the unsuitability of the language teaching/learning space for distance/online learning, lack of interpersonal interaction, concentration difficulties, technical difficulties and general lack of motivation are highlighted. Moreover, as the link between motivation and perception of online teaching was significant, the higher the motivation, the more positive the opinion of its effectiveness. Teachers reported using an eclectic approach, often incorporating the communicative method with other teaching methods. Finally, this research highlighted the reinforcement required for the process to be effective, as well as the difficulties encountered.
