Evaluation of the digitization process of paper medical documents in the archive and medical documentation unit inventory of a foundation university hospital in Ankara

This study aims to research and report all components of digitization processes of patient files stored in paper media containing patient information created in the hospital since its establishment, by using information technologies, and to create a road map for the institutions that will implement it. The main purpose of the study is to create awareness that will bring holistic discussions on sustainable-manageable business processes, within the framework of ethical and legislative rules and standards adopted in the world, by combining the past knowledge of medical archives with the current one, as an example to medical archives in Turkey. As the method followed in this study; "Interview Forms" were used to determine how the medical archive and medical documentation processes in Turkey work and what problems are encountered. National and international standards and legal regulations regarding medical documentation and medical archive processes have been researched. Current information technologies used in digitization processes have been researched and cost analysis has been made. The digitization pilot project of the paper-based medical documents in the archive and medical documentation unit inventory of a foundation university hospital in Ankara was implemented and the results were reported to contribute to the digitization of the patient files to be made.
