Opinions and suggestions of Turkish teachers in Ankara province about lesson plan

This research was conducted to determine the opinions and suggestions of Turkish teachers in Ankara province regarding lesson plans.Within the scope of the research, interviews were conducted with 21 Turkish teachers who volunteered to participate in the research among Turkish teachers with at least five years of professional experience working in Keçiören and Pursaklar districts of Ankara province. The participants were determined according to the criterion sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling methods. The opinions and suggestions of the participants were obtained using a semi-structured interview form prepared in line with expert opinions. The interviews were recorded and then turned into a written document. The data obtained from the interviews were analysed using the basic qualitative research model. Three themes were identified as a result of the analyses. These themes are 'Participants' opinions about lesson plans', "Participants" lesson plan preparation process' and 'Participants' suggestions for lesson plans'. According to the results of the study, it was seen that the participant Turkish teachers agreed that lesson plans are very important and have a positive effect on teacher and student success. It was seen that they shared different opinions about the preparation of lesson plans. While some participants preferred to use the ready-made plans by making changes on them, some others stated that each teacher should make his/her own plan. It was seen that they were in consensus about the flexibility of lesson plans. While some participants expressed a positive opinion about lesson plans being compulsory, others expressed a negative opinion. The participants argued that there was a waste of paper, especially because the plans were required to be printed on paper, and that the plans should be delivered in digital media to prevent waste. According to the findings obtained in the research, it is recommended that lesson plans should be used regularly in educational activities. As a result, it is expected that the findings obtained within the scope of the research will contribute to raising awareness of all relevant stakeholders about the importance of lesson plans.
