Investigation of mortal traffic accidents ocur in Ankara in terms of forensic medicine

This study aimed to determine the actual death rate due to traffic accidents that occur at the accident scene, in adition during transportation to hospital , in hospital or after discharge and emphasize the defect in the data of Turkey Statistical İnstituteBetween the dates of 01.01.2007-31.12.2007 there are total 1395 cases of death which the post mortem examinations made by the İnstitute Of Forensic Medicine Ankara branch Office.We added 482 death cases related to traffic accidents occured in center of Ankara with surrounding counties.İn the study, %70 (117) of cases due to traffic accident?s and %78.4 (247) of cases due to traffic-pedestrian accident, occurred outside the place of event was detected (total 364 cases) and was found statistically significant (p<0.05).According to the data of Turkey Statistical İnstitute; in Ankara in 2007 total 290 people died and 14778 people were injured as a result of traffic accidents. İn our study we have identified that from these 14778 injured people who brought various hospitals in Ankara, 364 dead outside the accident scene, and they are not included total number of 290 dead people. When these are added its understood that the overall total will be 654 not 290.İn Draft Road Traffic Act, to keep the records of the injured people in traffic accidents from those referred to a hospital and those dead within a thirty days, than to send this information to the Directorate General of Security is the responsilities of Ministry Of Health. However event-related deaths in traffic accidents can occur in the next few months following the accident. This means that all of the cases that have a history of traffic accident should be done autopsy after a forensic postmortem examination and as a result of autopsy as long as casuality between the death and the traffic accident exists regardless of elapsed time over the dead the death-cause must be considered traffic accident.Key Words: Traffic accidents, Death, Statistical
